AAXA M7 Portable LED Projector Review – Notable Features

OSRAM QUAD CAST LEDs

Quad Cast LED light source is designed to maximize brightness delivering accurate colors

LED light sources have always been compact and efficient which makes them a great option for a portable projector. Over the past few years advancements in LED technology have led to a major increase in brightness.

The LED light source used in the M7 was produced by Osram Opto Semiconductors. They offer a wide range of LEDs in the low-power, mid-power, high-power, and ultra-high-power classes that are used in general lighting, automotive, consumer, and industrial applications. The main market for these components is the automotive sector, smartphones, wearables, general lighting, lighting for plants, industrial lighting, and projection.

The M7 uses Osram Quad Cast LEDs with individual elements for red, green, and blue light which eliminates the need for a color wheel while increasing color saturation. The projector LED light source should last up to 30,000 hours in ECO mode.

The P6X has a rated brightness of 1,200 LED lumens and AAXA does not provide an ANSI lumens brightness specification. In theory, a LED light source makes images look brighter than their measured ANSI lumen brightness. AAXA claims the projector is capable of 1,200 LED lumens because the image should look as bright as the image produced by a 1,200-lumen lamp-based projector. We measured 626 ANSI lumens which is quite bright for such a compact projector.

BUILT-IN MEDIA PLAYER

Media Player to watch content from USB sources

One of the features I find most useful is a built-in and robust media player. A good media player can eliminate the need to connect a computer to your projector. As a presenter, you only have to bring a USB or Micro SD card with you.

The AAXA M7 provides the ability to connect a wide range of content devices. Using a USB flash drive, USB hard drive, or TF-card, one can project media player compatible content without the hassles of wires or having to boot up a computer. Just plug and play for near-instant projection of your photo slide show, music, or external video.

PowerPoint lets you export your presentation as a set of ordered JPG images, and when you select your first slide, you can begin your presentation. Use the M7 remote’s navigational arrows to advance your slides – the media player automatically assigns transitions to the slides.

I do wish it had built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth but I suppose one or both of these features could be added by buying an inexpensive HDMI Smart device like an Amazon Fire TV stick or similar device.

RUNS ON BATTERY

Up to 3 hours battery life in mild lamp mode

The AAXA M7 features a removable battery that provides even more entertainment or productivity on the go. The projector can last up to 3 hours when running in ECO mode, according to AAXA.

The built-in battery takes the M7 to the next level of usefulness and flexibility in almost any environment. The battery allows the M7 to be used outside, with the only limitation being the three hours of battery life. You could watch an entire movie and have some power left over to play a game.

4K READY

The AAXA M7 is 4K ready. Let me be clear, the M7 is a Full HD projector and as such does not display 4K, but via HDMI the M7 can accept a 4K signal and downsample it to project onto the screen in Full HD (1920 x 1080). 4K content must be no higher than 3840 x 2160 and at a maximum frame rate of 30 fps. The AAXA M7 does not support HDR and will disregard this data in any 4K content played on the device. There are tons of potential sources like smart media sticks from Amazon, Roku, and Google.

USB-C DIRECT SCREEN MIRRORING

Mirror content from compatible USB-C devices

The AAXA M7 pico projector enables direct screen mirroring for USB-C compatible devices. Simply plug in the USB-C (compatible) cable into your device and transform your small screen into a massive 200″ screen. Some compatible devices include Samsung and LG Smartphones. Apple iPad (select models) and Apple Macbooks (select models). Please check with your device manufacturer for screen output capabilities.
