The Halo+ utilizes many of XGIMI’s popular features and advanced proprietary technologies discussed in our XGIMI Horizon projector review. I will summarize some of the notable features found on the Halo+.
The Halo+ has a built-in battery that is rated to last up to two hours. I was able to get 2 hours and 18 minutes worth of battery-powered video playback time. The 2 hours and 18 minutes allowed me to watch all of the military science fiction film, The Tomorrow War which is a 2 hour and 18 minute movie, I even had several seconds to spare.
The Halo got 2 hours and 51 minutes of battery-powered video playback time which allowed me to watch all of The Tomorrow War, and then 33 minutes of the action thriller film Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse which is a 1 hour and 49 minutes long movie.
Both projector’s Image Mode was on Movie, Sound Effects was on Movie, and Brightness (power mode) was on Standard. The volume was set at level 20, which was the perfect volume level for my viewing position, approximately 6 feet to the rear of the projector. The Halo+ does not actually display the volume in numbers; I used level 20 because I pressed the volume up button 20 times from 0.
XGIMI rated the Halo+ LED light source at 700 to 900 ANSI lumens. The Halo+ is 700 ANSI lumens when operating off the built-in battery and 900 ANSI lumens when the Halo+ is plugged into a power source. The LED light source is rated to last up to 30,000 hours.
The Halo+’s integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) allows the Auto Keystone, Auto Focus, Intelligent Obstacle Avoidance, and Intelligent Screen Alignment to work together. Together, they intelligently identify and avoid obstacles in the projection area. The Halo+ is trained through thousands of scenes and hundreds of screen settings to automatically recognize the screen area and adjust the image accordingly.
XGIMI stated that even if you put the Halo+ projector on its side, it will still fill the screen from edge to edge. With the integrated AI and automatic keystone correction, the Halo+ setup is quick and easy.
XGIMI states that the Halo+ uses motion compensation technology through a specific algorithm to solve image flutter and tailing problems when projecting high dynamic images. The integrated 60HZ MEMC helps to deliver low image blur and latency rates. XGIMI also stated that MEMC significantly increases the clarity and fidelity of dynamic pictures, making it the perfect companion for watching sports and playing games.
XGIMI developed the Halo+ to include their patented X-VUE 2.0 advanced image engine. The X-VUE 2.0 image engine system is designed to significantly increase the image clarity and color fidelity of both SDR and HDR content. XGIMI states with X-VUE 2.0, “The image quality is made clearer and smoother, with purer and more realistic colors it brings a truly immersive user experience.”
The Halo+ supports HDR10 which is the most popular High Dynamic Range format. Due to their limited light output, projectors often struggle to properly display HDR content. Most projector manufacturers utilize HDR tone mapping to best utilize their projector’s capabilities.
The Halo+ supports HDR10+ content which provides the projector with dynamic metadata to help the projector make precise tonemapping adjustments frame by frame for a more realistic-looking picture.. Lastly, the Halo+ supports HLG which is the HDR standard developed for live broadcast.
The Halo+ is powered by Android TV 10.0 with 5000+ native apps and allows the user to quickly set up the built-in Android TV with an Android phone option. You can quickly transfer your Android phone Wi-Fi network and Google Account to the Halo+ Android TV. I do not have an Android phone, so I had to skip using this feature and manually input my network.
End-users can use the Halo+ to stream or play video games directly from the Android TV 10.0 interface. Android TV has 5000+ native Google Play apps for hours of entertainment. It is notable that Halo+ supports the Netflix app which many Android TV-equipped projectors do not.
The Halo+ is a smart projector equipped with voice control via Google Assistant. With its built-in microphone, the remote is used to control a wide variety of functions using only your voice. Simply press the Google Assistant mic button, the only colored button on the remote, and you are ready to control the Halo+ with your voice. Voice control can be used in numerous ways. For instance, I asked the Halo+ “tell me the weather,” “go to YouTube,” and “play children’s music.”
