Casio XJ-H2650 Projector Overview

With the performance of multimedia projectors improving while the cost drops, the projected life and cost of a replacement lamp is fast becoming a major factor in the projector buying process.  Schools and businesses that rack up hundreds of hours of use each year can have replacement lamp costs that meet or exceed the initial cost of the projector.  The Casio XJ-H2650 is one of Casio’s Pro Model projectors that have moved away from the traditional mercury lamp for its light source.

Unlike other projectors that only use an LED light source (which typically are not as bright as their mercury lamp counterparts), Casio’s Pro Models use a combination LED and laser light source.  A blue laser is used in conjunction with a fluorescent element to create high brightness green light, reserving the less important (for brightness purposes) red and blue components to be handled by the LED.  In the XJ-H2650, this combination translates to a 3500 lumen rating (see review for measured results), while providing a lamp life of up to 20,000 hours.

Casio combines this technology with a full featured WXGA (1280 X 800) multimedia projector that includes PC-free (USB), Smartphone projection (with MobiShow software), multi projection camera and wireless network presentation ability.  There are also inputs for multiple display sources, including HDMI.  The Casio XJ-H2650 is also 3D-ready for 3D presentations from a compatible PC (optional 3D glasses required).

The Casio XJ-H2650 is at the top of a full lineup of LED/Laser projectors.  There is the XJ-H2600, which is the same as the XJ-H2650 but without the USB and network capabilities.  There are also XGA versions of both the XJ-H2600 and XJ-H2650, identified as the XJ-H1600 and XJ-H1650 respectively.  Finally, there are higher lumen versions (4000 lumen rating), of the XJ-H1600 and XJ-H1650, which are labeled as the XJ-H1700 and XJ-H1750 respectively.
