Epson Powerlite S6 3LCD Projector

The Epson Powerlite W6 is one of three similar projectors in the Epson lineup, the W6, S6 and 78 models, which vary primarily by resolution, but also by available features. So, if you don’t need the higher resolution of the W6, there are cheaper but equally performing alternatives, such as this Powerlite S6. The links on this page will take you to the appropriate sections in the Powerlite W6 projector review.

It should be mentioned that ProjectorReviews.com has not physically reviewed the Epson Powerlite S6. However, performance of the S6 should be similar to the W6 (which we did review), albeit with lower resolution. Let’s see how the Powerlite S6 varies from the W6.

Epson Powerlite S6 Projector Overview

The Powerlite S6 mainly differs from the W6 and S6 projectors in that it is an SVGA (800 x 600) projector. It is the same size and shape as the W6 and 78, weighing in at 6 pounds, just slightly less than the 78’s 6.2 pounds. At 2200 lumens, the S6 performs well for a portable projector, and is capable of handling the demands of any settings with ambient lighting. Like the W6 and 78, the S6 projector comes with a soft travel bag that holds the projector, remote and any accessory cables. The other major difference from the 78 and W6 is that the S6 has a fixed lens, so there’s no optical zooming, only digital.

The rear panel of the S6 is identical to the 78, sporting the same inputs and monitor output. This includes composite and S-video inputs, the standard computer VGA input, and a USB Type B input. It does not offer the HDMI input that the W6 has, and it also cannot display directly from a SD card or USB drive as the W6 can. One feature that the S6 has that the W6 doesn’t is a VGA output for use with an external monitor. The S6 also has a 1 watt speaker.

The Powerlite S6’s dust filter and lamp are easily accessed, even when the projector is mounted! Also, the S6 comes with the same excellent services as the W6 and other Epson projectors: Epson’s Road Service program and PrivateLine toll-free support.

Many of the same differences of the S6 from the W6 are apparent in the Epson Powerlite 78, as well.

Final thoughts

The Powerlite S6 provides an attractive lower-priced option to the Powerlite W6. The W6 performed very well in our tests and we expect many of the W6’s strengths, particularly color depth and accuracy to be shared by the Powerlite S6.  To find out more about this family of Epson projectors, please use the links to learn more about the common features and performance.
