The NEC M363W combines high brightness with great color and presentation flexibility in a compact package that should please business and education presenters alike.
The NEC M363W is the latest in NEC’s successful M-series projectors. Like the M322W we reviewed previously, it’s a compact, WXGA (1280 X 800) DLP projector with a full feature set to handle most presentation needs. The M363W features network and PC-free presentation capabilities, quick on and off, a DICOM SIM mode and up to 8,000 hours lamp life in ECO mode. It also has a 20-watt built-in speaker which is more than sufficient for presentations in the classroom or conference room, without the need for powered external speakers. The M363W has the ability to project from a wide array of sources. You can connect to a computer or other video source via a standard VGA cable, composite and S-video, HDMI, or USB. You can also project over a network, either wired or wireless (with optional module) 802.11 b/g/n. It can also present directly from a USB thumb drive. The M363W has a rated output of 3600 lumens and a 1.7X zoom lens, as well as digital zooming.
Like its predecessors, the NEC M363W is relatively quick to set up, with an instant on feature and automatic keystone correction that speeds up the process once you have it close. The Auto lamp power feature adjusts the power level of the lamp depending on the brightness of the projected image, thus resulting in power savings and potentially improved lamp life (up to 8,000 hours in Eco mode). NEC has also gone to a filter-free configuration ensuring that the M363W should be operating for a long time without maintenance.
The M363W is one of seven projectors in the new M series. There are four XGA projectors, each with different wattage lamps and lumen ratings. The M283X, is rated at 2800 lumens and also boasts up to 10,000 hours of lamp life in Eco mode. The other three are the M323X, M363X and M403X rated at 3200, 3600 and 4000 lumens respectively. There is also another WXGA projector, the M323W which is rated at 3200 lumens and a 1080p projector rated at 4000 lumens, the M403H.
The M363W comes with a handy carrying case and its compact size and reasonably light weight (7.7 lbs.) makes it easy to transport between class or conference rooms.
