Optoma EH330UST Business/Education Projector Review – Summary

Epson BrightLink Interactive Projector Review – Summary: Summary, Pros, Cons

Optoma EH330UST Summary

The Optoma EH330UST is a 1080p (1920 x 1080) ultra short throw projector claiming 3,600 lumens. It didn’t quite hit its claim, but came in close enough. In its brightest mode, aptly named, “Bright,” measured a respectable 2,966 lumens. Not bad. That’ll be enough for the conference rooms, classrooms, and boardrooms that this projector is likely to be used in. Those kinds of rooms are always subject to at least a bit of ambient light, and the EH330UST should be able to do the trick.

This is a DLP projector with a 6-segment RGBWYC color wheel. This gives the $1,599 Optoma better color than some of the competition that use a RGBW color wheel, in that there’s more opportunity to get the color “just right.” Its ultra short throw design means it can be placed just inches from the screen to produce a beautifully large 80” to 100” image. The projector’s 1080p resolution makes for crisp video and text, which is highly readable at various font sizes and styles.

This is our best standard award for projectors. Best of Best Awards are given out only in our reports.

The Optoma EH330UST offers both standard wired RJ-45 for networking in addition to other networking features. It has compatibility with control software such as Crestron RoomView, Extron XTP, AMX, and PJ Link. The projector also has wireless capabilities via an optional wireless module, and is compatible with Android, Mac, and Android and iOS mobile devices. Its PC-Free media player works well too, with support for Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Optoma EH330UST Inputs and Connectors

The EH330UST has a simple inputs panel equipped with all the basic connectors for business and education applications. It has two HDMIs, two USB ports, a VGA In and Out, an RS-232c connector for old school command and control, a standard RJ-45 LAN input, and two audio jacks – Audio In and Audio Out. The PC-Free Document and Image Viewer can be used by inserting a USB device into one of the USB ports – the info is all in the Setup Menu.

The Optoma EH330UST has six color modes: Presentation, Bright, Cinema, Game, sRGB, and DICOM SIM. As mentioned, the projector did not meet its 3,600 lumen claim, instead coming in at 2,966 lumens in its brightest mode, Bright. The next brightest mode is DICOM SIM. at 2,740 lumens, then Cinema (2,440), Game (2,372), Presentation (2,199), and finally, sRGB, at 1,477 lumens. I liked Cinema, Game, and Presentation for their color – any should be suitable for presentations and video, where ambient light is present. sRGB also has good color, but would be better suited for rooms where there is a good amount of control over ambient light.
