Optoma TX542 Projector Overview

The Optoma TX542 projector is a portable XGA (1024 X 768) DLP multimedia projector that provides a low cost solution for schools and businesses.  With a street price well below its MSRP, the TX542 offers good brightness, a sharp and colorful image and one of the best warranties in the business.  Other projectors in the TX542’s class may achieve higher brightness ratings, but few combine that with the color accuracy and array of input (including HDMI) and output options that the TX542 does.  The projector features a “Help” screen that can be activated by a button on the remote to assist with any problem that might occur during setup.  The TX542 also boasts a lower noise level than most of the competition.  Combined with stereo 5-watt speakers, there is no problem hearing a presenter that is using the TX542’s built-in sound.  Having a laser pointer built in the remote is another nice feature.

The TX542’s light weight (6.4 lbs.) and compact size makes it a good choice if portability is desired.  It also comes with a travel bag for easy transport.  However, the bag does lack accessory pockets (there’s only one) for easily packing the remote, power and accessory cables.   Overall, the Optoma TX542’s combination of brightness, good contrast, solid color rendition, great warranty and low price makes it a real contender in the K-12 education market.  It should receive serious consideration by anyone looking for a capable multimedia projector at a good price.
