The Optoma ZX210ST projector (click for specifications) is a short throw XGA (1024 X 768) DLP projector that features a long life (warranted for 10,000 hours) combination laser/LED light source. It is roughly the same size and only a few pounds heavier than Optoma’s TW610ST projector, which we reviewed last year. The ZX210ST is able to project an 80” diagonal image from just over 3 feet (front of projector to screen), hence the “short throw” designation. Like the TW610ST, the ZX210ST uses a fixed normal lens projecting through a second, convex lens. Using a fixed lens does not allow for image zooming, so the projector must be placed at the proper distance for the screen size desired, as well as at the proper height.
The ZX210ST is a feature-laden projector, with a 2 GB built-in memory, stereo speakers and a multimedia player function that works with the internal memory, SD cards and USB thumb drives. It has presentation and control capability via wired or wireless (optional dongle required) networking with not only computers, but smart phones as well. There are inputs for almost every conceivable source and the ZX210ST is also 3-D ready, needing only a 3D source and active shutter 3D glasses. There is also a sister model, the Optoma ZW210ST, which provides all of the features of the ZX219ST, but in a widescreen (1280 X 800) format.
Built-in Multimedia Player – The Optoma ZX210ST can play video, audio and photo files from a USB thumb drive, SD card or smart phone (if equipped with the Mobishow app). It also includes an office viewer for displaying Microsoft Word documents and Adobe PDF files.
Internal Memory – The ZX210ST has a built-in 2 GB memory for storing presentations that can be viewed via its built-in multimedia player
10,000 Hour Lamp Life – The ZX210ST uses a combination laser/LED light source that is rated to last 10,000 hours. Depending on the amount of use the projector gets, this is likely longer than the life of the projector.
Crestron RoomView – The ZX210ST includes Crestron RoomView software, which enables a PC to operate as a remote control station of the projector when connected over a network.
