The Premiere LSP9T and its little brother, the Premiere LSP7T is Samsung’s first 4K ultra-short-throw smart projectors. Each year Flat-panel TVs get bigger and bigger. For example, Samsung offers several 85″ models starting at $1800. However, Samsung realizes that some customers desire an even larger more immersive picture. The Premiere Series of Laser TVs are designed to appeal to those customers.
The Samsung LSP9T which we reviewed originally had a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $6,499 so it sells at a higher price point than most Laser TVs. However its premium features and build quality justify its premium price. For example, the Premiere LS9PT, like the Hisense 100L9G ($5499 SRP), utilizes an advanced triple laser light source capable of displaying colors that most flat-panel displays can not.
The LSP9T and its little brother, the LSP7T, represent the best of Samsung when it comes to hardware, software, and product design. To quote Samsung, “The Premiere re-imagines the home cinema experience with an all-new compact design, 4K picture quality, and big sound for tight spaces that can be used for any at-home activity and living room arrangements.”
When introduced the LSP9T was packed with industry-leading technologies. The LSP9T triple laser source, which was the world first, is rated at 2800 ANSI lumens so it can easily project a bright and vibrant image on screens up to 130 inches.
In addition, LSP9T was the world’s first HDR10+ certified projector. Samsung also included the latest versions of its Tizen smart TV platform found in utilized in their award-winning QLED flat-panel lineup., This gives the user access to a full slate of streaming video apps from major content partners, and mobile connectivity features such as tap view and mirroring. The LSP9T also features a fully integrated high-quality sound system,
Samsung has hit a home run with Premerie LSP9T. Its performance and feature set put it in the running for the best Laser TV on the market today. The Premiere LSP9T is truly a premium Laser TV.
The Premiere series is Samsung’s first outing in the ultra-short-throw laser TV projector category. With advancements in laser light sources, sound systems, and smart features, Laser TVs like the LSP9T are now worthy of replacements for flat-panel televisions found in many living rooms.
Currently, there are two models in the Samsung Premiere series lineup, the LSP9T and the LSP7T. While both models look nearly identical there are some notable differences that justify the $2000 price delta. Stepping up from the LSP7T to the LSP9T adds a state-of-the-art RGB laser light source which provides higher brightness and the ability to reproduce a much wider color gamut. The LSP9T also includes a nicer sound system than the LSP7T.
One feature that is common between the two models is the user interface. Samsung is a leader in the premium flat-panel television category. Their televisions provide a seamlessly integrated software and hardware experience. So it comes as no surprise that the LSP9T is not only smart; it’s as smart as the best Samsung flat-panel televisions.
The LSP9T is fully compatible with the most widely available voice assistants from Google, Amazon, and even Samsung Bixby. The LSP9T provides you access to the Samsung Smart TV (User Interface) UI and a complete smart TV experience that includes access to some of the most popular streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube™, and more. When it comes to video performance, the Premiere LSP9T is a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) pixels, ultra-short-throw projector powered by a Texas Instruments digital micromirror device (DMD) imager. For the light engine, Samsung has tossed aside the typical choice of a single-laser diode and instead has chosen to use a cutting-edge, triple-laser light engine with the expectation of improving light output while also providing purer light. Samsung recommends a maximum screen size of 130 inches to get the best picture quality from the LSP9T. The Premiere LSPT supports HDR10 along with HLG and it is the world’s first HDR10+ certified projector.
At the risk of repeating myself, let me say again that HDR is very tough to achieve on any projector fully. Samsung intends to change this with the Premiere’s RGB triple-laser light engine. It uses the foundational elements of red, green, and blue color (RGB) to deliver accurate and vibrant color tones. While many other projectors are still struggling to deliver the entire Rec.709 color space, Samsung claims the LSP9T can cover 106% of BT.2020 or Rec.2020 color gamut and a whopping 147% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. There are only a limited number of video displays on the market today that can reproduce as wide of a color gamut.
Of course, it’s not all about resolution, brightness, and color. Good contrast is also a critical feature, By utilizing laser dimming, Samsung states the LSP9T dynamic contrast ratio is 2,000,000:1.
Generally, laser TVs try to offer a fully self-contained home theater experience so a good sound is important. So Samsung has equipped LSP9T with a high-quality 40-Watt, 4.2-channel sound system.
