The Viewsonic PJD5533w projector is a portable, wide screen WXGA (1280 X 800) DLP projector that is aimed at the budget conscious presenter. Its no-frills design offers solid performance at a price (street price of $499) that won’t break the bank. When you add the long lamp life to the equation (5000, 6000 or 8000 hours depending on lamp mode), the cost of ownership is impressively low. The low cost also means that you get a minimum of connections and no network control or projection capability. It does have an HDMI V1.4a jack, however, and the PJD5533w is 3-D ready, incorporating Texas Instruments’ DLP link technology.
The PJD5533w is at the top of a family of similar projectors. These include the PJD5132 and PJD5134, which are similar to the 5533w, but are SVGA (800 X 600) resolution. There are also the PJD5232L and 5234L models, which are XGA (1024 X 768) resolution. The PJD 5132 and 5232L differ from their siblings in that they don’t have a digital (HDMI) input. There is also a 6000 series of similar projectors that offer networking ability as well.
Thanks to its compact size and light weight (4.6 lbs.), the PJD5533w is extremely portable, allowing it to be easily moved from room to room. Overall, the Viewsonic PJD5533w offers a solid combination of high brightness, good contrast and color, low maintenance costs, and a great warranty. For the school or business on a tight budget, the $499 street price of the PJD5533w should make it a serious contender when evaluating your projection needs.
